Commissioning

Commissioning a piece of handmade furniture or cabinetry is a rewarding process for both the maker and the client. It is a chance for you to have a project built to your exact requirements.

The process is defined by 3 stages:

1. Consultation

The initial consultation takes place through the form of an informal meeting, ideally in the environment the piece is to placed. The function, style, materials, finishes and budget can be discussed. Following this a written estimate and brief will be issued. There is NO CHARGE or obligation to proceed beyond this stage, there may however be a charge to reflect the cost of visiting clients based outside my catchment area.

2. Proposal (Design & Drawings)

If you are happy with the brief and estimate we can proceed to the design stage. Drawings are produced so that I can begin to realise the piece to your exact requirements. There is an initial 'design fee' for the drawings (outlined in the estimate) however this would be your only commitment at this stage. The 'design fee' is waived should you wish to proceed to the production stage.

3. Production & Installation

Once a design and final price is approved, production can begin on receipt of a deposit (usually 40% of the final price). Suitable time scales are laid out to include workshop visits and dates for delivery and installation. The remaining balance will be paid on delivery. For larger scale projects staged payments can be discussed.
